The BMW 2002 has spent the last two years in the garage, and let’s just say it’s showing its age. Right now, it runs like a grumpy old man—hard to start, refuses to idle when cold, runs rich, and to top it off, the carb is leaking. The steering wobbles, and the e-brake cables are completely shot.
But this car still has soul. Every imperfection is a reminder of the journey it’s been on and the work ahead to bring it back to life. The plan is ambitious, but I wouldn’t have it any other way:
🔧 Dual Weber Side Drafts: The leaky carb will finally go, making way for a pair of side drafts to transform the engine’s performance and drivability. 🔧 Tactico Steering Wheel: A new wheel to replace the worn-out one and add a touch of vintage flair to the cabin. 🔧 Suspension Overhaul: Fixing the wobbly steering with new tie rods, a center track rod, and bushings to tighten everything up. 🔧 Custom Center Console & Blaupunkt Stereo: A complete rebuild of the center console with modern functionality, while keeping a period-correct look with the new stereo. 🔧 Interior Refresh: New door panels, fresh upholstery on the Recaro seats, and some new floor mats to make the cabin feel inviting again. 🔧 E-Brake Repairs: Broken cables are no match for the rebuild plan. Time to get the handbrake working again. 🔧 Body Repairs: Tackling rust bubbles and dents, especially on the roof and hood, to restore the paint and bodywork. 🔧 Engine Tuning: Getting the engine sorted with proper tuning and adjustments to make it smooth, reliable, and fun to drive again.
It’s a long road ahead, but this car deserves nothing less. Every fix brings it one step closer to being the car I always dreamed of. The beauty of a project like this is that the journey matters just as much as the destination.
Here’s to the revival of this middle aged German Bombshell. Stay tuned! #BuiltNotBought #BMW2002 #ProjectCar
